Mission Statement Our goal is to be federally recognized as an Indian tribe in order for the people of the Cherokee on the Arkansas River to have many of the benefits currently received by other Native American groups. Some of our priorities include cheap and affordable health care as well as economic development, jobs, and financial stability for all the members of the Lost Cherokee. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
*********************************************************************** ******* Lost Cherokee Brings Lawsuits Against Fraudulent Splinter Groups!!! The Lost Cherokee of Arkansas and Missouri otherwise known as the Cherokees on the Arkansas River or The Arkansas Cherokee Nation has formally served two splinter groups with circuit court complaints so that the in-fighting, bickering, and fraud can finally be brought to an end. The first group served is comprised of Bill, Harold, and Jennifer Helton of Conway, Arkansas as well as Al McKay of Oklahoma. In 2007 this group broke away from The Lost Cherokee and petitioned the government to be recognized as The Arkansas Cherokee Nation otherwise known as the Chickamauga of Arkansas. Not only did they steal our Arkansas Cherokee Nation name, they also still currently use our seal that was approved by vote of our tribal members. They have been given property in our name, set up shops in our name, and have held minor meetings to spread discord among our people. They were brought in front of the court on the 19th of May and the process of ending their hurtful actions to our tribe has finally begun. The second group to be served is based out of Dover, Arkansas. Spreading lies and slander for several years now and actually claim to be the Lost Cherokee throwing much confusion amongst our people. They still use our name and symbols and even claim to be headmen and councilmen. However, their time has also come. They were in court May 18th. This case is very important. The BIA has said we cannot move forward with federal recognition until they are stopped. Update: ***May 18, 2009--Dover case is still continuing. ***May 19, 2009--Helton's motion to dismiss their case was denied. Court sessions will proceed as planned. *********************************************** ********* |
